Firefighter to the Rescue...
We went to the park today and walked on the nature's trail. We hadn't gone too far when we heard a noise--it sounded like a cat's meow, but then it also sounded like a bird up in a tree. We tried to locate the source, but found nothing...so we continued on our walk. We didn't get very far before deciding to go back to the park again. As we were returning, we heard the noise again--this time we found a kitten up in a tree!
The girls were very concerned, and Aliya said that we needed to go tell a firefighter because they have the big ladder that can get the kittens down from trees. We were not that far from the fire department, so we headed in that direction.
When we got to the station, we went inside and told the secretary that there was a kitten stuck up in a tree. She said she didn't think that the firefighters did that anymore, but she would go and check. When she returned, she had a firefighter with her. He asked the girls if it was their kitten up in a tree, and they told him it was not theirs--we had just found it while we were out walking. He said that cats will eventually come down by themselves. He said that they used to try and rescue cats from the trees, but that many times they didn't want to be rescued and would often decided to jump down anyway just to get away from the firefighters. He reassured the girls that the cat would be just fine.
He asked the girls if they would like to see the firetruck, and of course, they did! The girls got to get up in the truck and look around. He also gave the girls a quick firetruck lesson--never run to the street if you see a firetruck because then they have to slow down. He told them to stay up by their house or up away from the curve and just wave. He promised that if they saw them waving, they would wave back.
We thanked him for helping us, and then we walked back to the park. What an eventful day! I wonder what our next walking adventure will be!
